Despacito from Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi, and Daddy Yankee became the song most streamed at the time within less than six weeks. The song is a blend of pop music and reggaeton not only brought renewed attention to reggaeton but it also brought attention to Latin music generally. The Billboard Top 100 in 2015 had two tracks that were mostly in the Spanish languages, while the year 2016 saw four. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017 however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 of them. After Justin Bieber's remix in two languages Despacito (2017), a number of bilingual remixes Despacito (2017) popular artists soon began collaborating with reggaeton performers including Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna and Maluma in Medellin (2019). The year 2000 saw a number of reggaeton performers were lamenting their genre's shift towards the mainstream. However, a younger generation of performers, including Rauw Alejandro, aimed to continue the evolution of reggaeton. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music, as well as various other genres was a typical method.
